Community Engagement

Special Folks and Special Friends

“ Unique is Special and Engaging”

We gain friends in clients, clients’ families and friends. Through the years, we encountered cases that don’t necessarily fit in the standard descriptions of known medical or mental conditions. Human conditions are real-time, what labs work presented and how the patient manifested days or weeks ago, may not be relevant in current conditions. Every  clinical  case  can  be  typical and easy, but some cases can be invariably variable. Furthermore, humans are the only beings who are capable of managing how they want to be seen and deny what they seem. One of our smart clients – Ms. GG who became a friend, like family, had seen different psychiatrists to find one who’d avoid her the diagnoses of anxiety disorder. In the long run, she was also tagged as bipolar, anti- social, which our experienced reps and caregivers felt did not fit her. Eventually, her primary physician was convinced of her calm, considerate persona through the logs of her daily activities noted down by three different independent caregivers. Her daily anxieties were eventually reduced with the emotional supports from caregivers, family and friends.  Her paranoia and depression went off which were result of daily anxieties. Our sense of fulfillment was seeing miss GG, relieved from public’s misconceptions, became more adjusted and could happily mingle in community gatherings without feeling like an outcast anymore.

RLabNet ‘s Advocacy program holds group meetings for special folks and friends like Ms. GG, who are open to sharing their experiences.  We like being stumped during meetings, learning the unseen and unsettling issues in our community. Listening to our folks’ activities, motives and purpose in life are invaluable information to appropriate help they seek/need. Program attendees are helped to reframe their mindset that conform to norms without hampering their personal wants and freedom. Resulting good behaviors win friends, support, and help find new meaningful goals in life for those who are lost.
